Visit the Core Exhibits to see core samples from the Permian Basin. Researchers from the Bureau of Economic Geology newly formed RAMS (Resource Assessment of Mudrock Systems) consortia will be presenting cored intervals of Wolfcamp D (Midland Basin), and 2nd Bone Spring Sand and 3rd Bone Spring Shale (Delaware basin). Presentations will focus on depositional systems, rock facies, tying wireline to core, and new core measurements to evaluate permeability. Core characterization continues to be a fundamental skill to evaluate reservoir quality, and remains particularly important to evaluate emerging enhanced oil recovery approaches in these unconventional reservoirs.
